Ok, so I depserately want this movie to be remade. I want it closer to the novel and made in a way where the animation is not as terrible as the orginal. Post opinions here on how you want it to go!
Who would you want directing? Animated? Claymation? Real rabbits? Something else? Who would play voices? What would you put back in that was taken out of the original movie? What would you take out of the original film in this new remake?

If there was a remake: No idea who I would have direct. It would be animated. It could be 2d or CGI, though neither could be cutesy. It would have to be realistic and raw. As for voices, to be honest, I always really loved John Hurt as Hazel, and Michael Graham-Cox as Bigwig. Though obviously not possible in a remake, I'm not sure who I would chose. I feel like Blackberry didn't get much credit in the movie for his ideas. He would tell them to Hazel and then Hazel would almost claim them as his own. So I would like to see that, and also Dandelion as a storyteller, he was almost written out of the movie, but having some of the rabbit lore in there is really important to understanding the depth of the characters and story. Will post more when I think of it

I would really like to see Tim Burton take a whack at it. Computer animated or Claymation (not cute bunnies!). Hazel – Hugh Laurie Fiver - David Thewlis Bigwig – Anthony Hopkins Hyzenthlay- Rachel Weisz Dandelion – Colin Firth Blackberry - Robert Pattinson Pipkin - Woundwort –Christopher Lee Cowslip – Alan Rickman Strawberry - Holly – Michael Caine Bluebell – John Hannah Keehar – John Cleese Campion- Ian McKellen Blackavar – Alan Rickman (I think he could do both!)

I Love Tim Burton, but unless he can keep his art style out of the film, I don't want him to direct. A good director might be Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) or Zack Snyder (Guardians of Ga'hoole), or Jon Favreau (Iron Man). Remember, directing doesn't always include writing or visuals, it's about who can tell the story visually the best. Panning the camera, composition, timing, cut aways, that sort of stuff.
As for voice acting, the original cast from the film would be ideal but that's not going to happen. " hazel- Hugh Laurie" (not sure about that ) " bigwig - Anthony Hopkins" ( no) I'd prefer Ian McKellen, he sounds more like the one from the movie I think. (shrug) " woundwort- Christopher lee" (hell yes) though I suggest Peter Cullen (Optimus prime/ toonami announcer) If not as Woundwort, maybe Peter Cullen could narrate or play Frith. Allan Rickman could play anybody, I think. Hahaha! Michael Caine should definitely be in the movie but I see him as Silver, Dandelion, or Frith. Maybe Morgan Freeman could narrate! Ahhahahaha!
As for style, I'd like live action with some CGI or just pure CGI but it needs to edgy. I didn't think the films animation was horrible. It kept the reality of the characters as rabbits in man's world with very few anthropomorphic moments. Although, the style did make it difficult to tell rabbits apart at times. And you have to admit the animation of the creation story in the beginning and the black rabbit throught the film was impressive and fine as it was. I liked that the black rabbit of Inlé looked different at the very end when he appeared to Hazel in his last hour and the. Changed to the style he had been perceived by the living so that Hazel would recognize him. I definitely want that in the film: for the black rabbit to appear to Hazel as a friend, then a quick flash to show him as the myth before he leads Hazel's spirit away. And we all know " Bright eyes" has to be in the movie.

A remake would be great. I like the movie, love the series and of course the books. But a new version of the movie could be interesting.
Usually, I prefer 2D drawn animation. But for Watership Down, I think, a computer animated, realistic and dark style would be great.
I prefer Zack Snyder, too. But i think, Martin Rosen must produce the movie. He did a good job in the series. And of course, Mike Batt must compose the music again. "Bright Eyes" must stay the title song (I don't mind if it's a new cover version).
