I was just browsing the web when I came across this write-up from a member of the House Rabbit Society. There's a few interesting pieces of information in there, including the fact that Adams' inspiration for the story was actually from the story of Agememnon, "Cassandra sees the palace walls dripping with blood but no one believes danger is imminent." which is obviously the starting point for Fiver's vision and the danger that the warren is in. Anyway, here's a link to the article: www.rabbit.org/journal/4-2/richardadams.htmlI've always found these little pieces of information to be quite interesting, and in some ways gives more background to the story as you develop an understanding of where it came from.

What a wonderful article!
I too have always wanted to meet Richard Adams, and show him the copy of the book which I proposed to my fiancé in, and maybe get him to sign it. Also, to visit WD and talk about the book and the story.
I guess, given the geographical distance, I will have to live vicariously though this person's experience!
Thanks for sharing though!

I think it would be very fascinating to talk to him, just to get inside the mind of the author and get some extra perspective on the novel from the source itself, especially seeing the Down. I have seen photos from an online friend who went there, and it's truly just a beautiful place. Adams did a wonderful job of describing the Down in the novel and bringing it to life, but it would make things all that more real.
Not only the geographical distance though, but also the unfortunate matter that Adams' is getting quite old now, 92 I think and it's sad to say that he may not be around for much longer, considering how many lives he has touched with his writing.
